"In the course of putting the car back together, I'd been looking for an alternative to the Gano Filter.  I didn't like the idea of having to unclamp the hose to check and clean it.  Then I came across the Tefba filter. It functions the same as the Gano, but to me seems easier to use."

"What the filter does is simply to filter the hot cooling water as it leaves the engine, before it reaches the top of the radiator. Normally, without the filter, any foreign bodies such as rust particles, paint flakes, mud build-up, etc would reach the top of the cooling tubes in the radiator, which could, depending on the amount of contamination, very soon become clogged up and reduce
cooling efficiency.

On a new car, such a filter is not necessary, because presumably the inside of the engine and cylinder head are quite clean. On a 35 to 45 year old car however, such as our club vehicles, quite a lot of contamination can have occurred, and considerable amounts of debris can be dislodged, particularly if the system is disturbed by an engine re-build or even removing and replacing the cylinder head for a top overhaul. From personal experience I have been amazed at how much rubbish is captured in the filter after this type of work.

For this reason I strongly recommend the filter be fitted whenever possible, particularly when you figure that the cost of a filter is less than half of that
of a radiator clean!"

As mentioned in their advertising material the Tefba filter safely removes Silastic, gasket materials, sludge, loose particles from chemical washing, and rust particles from the water/coolant travelling back into your radiator.

Fitting is a breeze, simply cut the return hose at the top of your radiator and insert the filter assembly into the gap & use the supplied hose clamps to secure and seal, then top up the fluid. It's that easy.

A couple of members, including Tom and Chuck, currently run the Tefba filter in their vehicles & swear by them. A word of warning to the new owner of these filters though from Chuck... let your first couple of trips be short ones & clean the filter after each one. On his first trip after fitting he was lucky to make it home before the filter was full of debris from his well-maintained motor ! "

"So it's pretty obvious that we really like the Tefba coolant filter. It's such a simple idea, yet it works so well. This should prolong the life expectancy of a host of parts that are a hassle to replace: the radiator, the heater core, and the water pump will see obvious benefits. It could also help prevent water jackets from plugging, and maybe prevent the thermostat from getting gummed up. It's certainly worth the small price of admission to find out."

"On my 66 Buick Riviera I had to replace the radiator a while back because it was so blocked from rubbish from the cooling system. It actually weighed twice as much as it should have.

Before I bought the car it hadn't been driven for 18 months and there were chunks of debris floating around that sometimes blocked the inlet under the thermostat to the pump impeller, causing immediate overheating. It was scary watching that needle climb and climb. The thermostat housing had to come off to clear the hole, usually on the side of the road after it cooled down. Very annoying!

I've done about 10,000 miles since fitting the Tefba Filter and it's catching all that stuff beautifully."
